About MaMa Vallone's

Memories are what makes MaMa Vallone's Restaurant so special. We can remember the wonderful aromas and smells. We can remember when nearly every family of Italian descent in Roslyn and Cle Elum would take delivery of a giant truckload of wine grapes. The entire family would gather to crush the grapes and then press the must into wine. What a wonderful sight to see the racked wooden barrels lining the walls of the cool wine cellar. This was a time of great happiness and well-being. This was the time when memories were made. Homemade sausages and salami were made and hung to cure in cool basements. Mushrooms were gathered in the spring and fall. Gardens were planted and harvested to be preserved by canning or drying. The coal shed and wood pile was stocked to provide heat for the long, cold winter. There were always a few chickens, rabbits, and the occasional cow or pig. These kinds of memories were foremost in the minds of the Vallone Family when the idea of MaMa Vallone's Steak House was born. Two brothers - Joe and Dennis Vallone, opened this restaurant in the month of May, 1986. They wanted a restaurant that would be like no other. The food would remind you of YOUR childhood memories of going to grandma's house or to your favorite Aunt's house for a special dinner or holiday feast. The food would be selected with the same care and skill that Grandpa and Grandma Vallone used in their own cooking more than 75 years ago. The dream became reality and the Vallone Family, with the help of their excellent staff, received many awards for Food and Service including the coveted National Beef Backer Award. The present restaurant was once a boarding house for teachers and single businessmen, built in the early 1900's. A full restoration was completed in 1983with an eye to keep all of the charm of this wonderful turn-of-the-century building.

"Mangiare! Mangiare!" "Eat! Eat!" As Giuseppe and Angelina urged their family and guests -- We invite you, We thank you, and We wish you - Buon Appetito!

Chris Pribbernow - Ellensburg, WA

"Wow, for a place in Cle Elum or anywhere in this region, the food is amazing! I attend college at CWU, and the steak here were better than anywhere in Ellensburg. My ribeye steak was so tender and juicy, perfectly cooked. The baked potato was also actually cooked well unlike anywhere in Ellensburg. This restaurant also has a good-looking pasta selection. I highly recommend this place if in or driving by Cle Elum!"

Jason Babila

"Their steaks, prime rib, spaghetti, fettuccine, Sicilian dishes, etc are the best you could ask for in a small town. They have a great wine and beer selection as well."
